My daughter Jennifer and granddaughter Lydia came for Mother's Day and after dinner we retired to the swing on the verandah. It was so refreshing to soak in the warm spring air and hear the birds contentedly nesting in the trees nearby. As we relaxed I spent some time teaching Lydia to crochet. What a delight it was to watch her intensely working at each stitch and then seeing her pleasure with her accomplishment. FUN!
It made me think of Titus 2:3-5 which says, "Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God."
OH MY! I don't remember talking to Lydia about any of these things while we sat on the swing this afternoon? Did I fail her and my daughter today? Have you heard the expressions, that 'some things are more caught than taught' and 'actions speak louder than words'? I trust that this was true of my life as we spent time together today and as it says in verse 3, that I was 'reverent in the way I lived' before them.
Lord, please make me more and more into a Titus 2 woman. May not only my words, but my actions show to those around me a life that honors You. Amen
