Anyway, something relevant jumped out of the wierdness at me today. In verse 6 it says, "Do you thus deal with the Lord, O foolish and unwise people? Is He not your Father, who bought you? Has He not made you and established you?"
My mind jumped right to 1 Corinthians 6:19 & 20, "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."
I'm so glad that He bought me and I DO want my life to glorify Him more! 'Glorify' isn't a word I use in conversation much but I once heard it explained differently at a Bible Conference over 30 years ago. The speaker simplified it by saying, 'Just do what makes God look good in your life'. That resonated with me and stuck with me to this day. Kids from healthy families try to behave in ways that honour the family name.........make their parents proud! Since we are not only God's kids but His purchased possessions, we could think of it in the same way and live our lives to honour Him as our 'heavenly parent' and make Him proud .
Okay, so what does that look like? Ouch! this is where it gets personal! Let's just say it has to do with what I 'value, say, do and be' in all areas of my life. That's pretty general but as you expand it out (as I am doing) into all areas of your life, you may find (like I have) that you may need to do a little work on the 'glorifying' piece, so to speak. For me right now, one thing I am being convicted about is being more joyful in my spirit, not just 'out there' but right here at home where it's just me and the hubby (AND a bunch of other stuff too but you don't have time to listen to all that right now and I don't have time to tell you :)
I know, change is hard and in fact, it is impossible to do and to sustain in our own strength. BUT the good news is, we can do 'all things through Christ's strength', who not only began this work in us but He says He will complete it as well. (Philippians 1:6)
Thank You my Father for creating me and then wanting me to be Your child bad enough to purchase me with through the death of Your only son Jesus. Today, I want to make you look good as my Heavenly Parent and I'm grateful for Your strength to do that. Amen <3
QUESTION: How do you think it impacts those around us when we 'make God look good' in our lives? Encourage others by posting a comment below and be encouraged by what others may post. Thanks ahead of time for encouraging me and may God bless you for doing so!
