JESUS!  WAKE UP!

"As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”  When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm."  Mark 4:37-39

Can we escape the storms of life?  I don't know many that do.  In fact, the older I get the more there seems to be of them!  I'm not whining.................just saying. :)

What do you usually do when a storm hits your boat?  Well, personally, I start bailing, thinking I can single-handedly keep myself from sinking.  When that doesn't work, I may start rowing, thinking maybe I can outrun this thing.  The last thing I usually think of (not being much smarter than the disciples) is to wake up Jesus and get His help.  Oh, I know He isn't sleeping but little ole human me forgets at times that He is there.........as if He's not ready and waiting for me to call on Him every second of every day..............and night for that matter!

It was pretty cool that Jesus stopped the storm the disciples were in but how much more miraculous would it have been if the storm in their hearts had been calmed.  Just picture the disciples, with the storm raging around them, calmly bailing and rowing instead of freaking out the way they were...............now THAT would have been a real conundrum to anyone looking on!

How about us?  W
hen the storms of life are raging OUTSIDE of us, is it peaceful INSIDE us?  Do others looking on, scratch their heads and 'ask a reason for the hope that is in us'?  (1Peter 3:15)

I found it interesting as well that Mark mentioned other boats were there in the storm too.  But take note that Jesus was only in one of them.  I'm glad He's in my boat and when the storms are raging (and they do!) I'll try to remember to wake HIM up first before I start bailing and rowing to shore!

How about you friend?  Is He in your boat?  Maybe you are in a storm and you are bailing and rowing furiously, forgetting Jesus is there.  Is it time to wake Him up?  Wouldn't a little peace in your soul feel good right now?

Yeah, a little peace in my soul right now would be wonderful and the storm raging on in my heart, causing a lot of anxiety and fear on the outside.

What a good post. My usual response is to start telling others about my storm and then I think to pray about it. Think I'll set my auto pilot on pray to Jesus first and tell second.

Thanks Christine and yes............that is another way I try to handle it on my own instead of waking Jesus up!
