'Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.'--Matthew 11:28
REST! How we need it after all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. Can I get a witness! Not that I would want it to be any other way. We are so blessed to have had our son Greg and his wife Lily and our grandsons with us this year for Christmas. Of course, our daughter Jennifer and her husband Craig and my granddaughter Lydia live just next door so the whole clan was here for the 'big day'.
As I think about the whole idea of rest, I realized at one moment today that it isn't something I will have to wait to get when all the celebrations are over. Sitting in church this morning, I found myself mindlessly mouthing the Christmas carols and instead thinking about dinner in the oven and whether it was turned up too high or low, how much time we had to eat before my grandson Patrick had to go play basket ball, and how long it would take for his uniform to dry when suddenly I heard the Lord speak the message of the Christmas carol into my heart. 'Peace on Earth'!
REST! It happened just like that............no waiting until the day was over and the lunch was eaten (burnt or not) and the game was won or lost with dry or slightly damp uniform! Immediately, I was able to leave the lunch, laundry and game to the future and focus on the wonder of the birth of Jesus............Emmanuel, God with us!
If God was willing to send His only son, Jesus, from the glories of heaven, to this earth, to take on human flesh and die a cruel death to pay for MY sin, wouldn't He also take care of everything else? Yes, He will and He did!
Jesus is our peace! (Eph. 2:14) This is the reason, He could say to us, 'Come to me...........and I will give you rest.' He gives us HIMSELF!
