MOSES IS DEAD!  NOW WHAT?

JOSHUA 1:1-4

Moses, God’s servant is dead and so God is now speaking to Joshua, Moses’ assistant, telling him to lead the Children of Israel (COI) into the land He had promised to them through Moses.  It was all going to be his!

Need I say more?  But of course I will or it would be a pretty short read!

How can we relate our recovery from the issues of life that have been ‘slamming us up against the wall’ for way too long to what we see happening in these few verses?

I believe that even before we begin recovery, there is a ‘stage’ of recovery called ‘0’ recovery.  We have no recovery yet but God is preparing the way through our circumstances for it to begin.

Joshua was not planning on leading the COI in conquering the land God had promised to them……..until Moses was dead!  Then God very clearly stepped into his world and said, ‘Joshua, you are going to do this ‘now’!’

Many of us in recovery can relate to Josh’s experience.  When all efforts to conquer our issue on our own are as dead as Moses was then it’s as if God has shown up and said to us, ‘(insert your name here), you are going to do this ‘now’!’

We can tend to think (being the wonderful managers of our own lives up to this point…..NOT!) that we made the decision to get into recovery by our own good management.  But over time and through greater understanding of God we come to realize that just as it was God’s plan and timing for Joshua to conquer the land, so it is God’s plan and timing (not ours) for us to begin to conquer our issue(s) and enter into the life that God has planned for us to have through our relationship with Christ.  (JEREMIAH 29:11;  EPHESIANS 2:10)  In reality, we are neither the ‘master of our own fate’ nor the ‘captain of our own ship’!

Father God, thank You for being God in my life and that I don’t have to be!  Thank You for having demonstrated through Joshua’s life that You have good plans for my life and that you will make them happen in Your way and in Your time.  I humbly wait on You Father.  Amen
