SABBATH REST

READ EXODUS 20:8-11

It’s Monday and I am in need of a Sabbath Rest!  Yes, I know yesterday was Sunday and that was supposed to be it but it wasn’t!  Up at 7:00 and on the road by 7:45 to drive an hour or so to church for 9:15 (which was quite different in format from our own but enjoyable!) and then to our friends Kandy and Drew’s for about 5 hours of orientation and 'divvying up' of the Audio Bibles and other supplies for the team that`s going to Bolivia with Alex later this month………..delicious lunch (thank you Kandy and Drew).......then back on the road about 5:00 then made another quick stop to pick up something at another friend’s then stopped for supper (breathe) and then headed for  home and an early bed time!

I wrote this little meditation on 'Self Care' and the 'Sabbath Rest' awhile ago but thought it would ‘fit the bill’ today so here it is again!  God bless your day whatever kind it is and do some good 'self care' friend!  Me?  I’m taking it easy!!!!  \0/

One of the ways we can take care of ourselves is to take time for a Sabbath Rest each week.  One day out of seven to stop our work and do something different that would be restful and relaxing………..whatever that means to us.  It can also be a time of spiritual refreshment……spending some extended time in prayer and meditation on God’s Word and listening to Christian music.

Traditionally, in our culture, that day has been called the Sabbath or the Lord’s Day and has been observed on Sunday but as our culture changes……we may find that we need to make different choices in order to do good  ‘self-care’ and practice a 'Sabbath Rest'.  Sunday may be as busy a day (or busier) for some as other days and therefore not restful.  Another day may be more conducive to a ‘Sabbath Rest’

There's been controversy over this topic of the ‘Sabbath’ but what God is saying to me in this passage is that rest is important to our 'self care' and we need to take care of ourselves by observing a day of rest each week.............just like HE modeled for us right from the beginning of time!

I sometimes do that on Saturdays, playing my harp, praying, writing songs and not "having to" do anything I don't want to do. I love it when I can do that! I would like to make choices to make this possible every week. It is sooo refreshing and wonderful and makes it easier to get back into the "routine" the next day!

My parents instilled in me at a very young age the need for a sabbath rest. No games, no going outside to run and play, no reading anything but Sunday School papers and so on. It was a good practice back then and even now as an adult I so appreciate the practice of a sabbath rest on Sunday.

HA! HA! me too Christine.........but I haven't been in 'sunday sabbath rest' mode for years but it's funny how the desire to do that has not left me. :)
