SHELTER IN THE STORMS

Mark 6: 48-51 "He saw that  they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o'clock in the morning, Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them, but when they saw him walking on the water they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost. They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once. "Don't be afraid," he said. "Take courage! I am here!" Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed."

I have never been in a boat on the water in a storm but I have been in a couple of storms where it was necessary to go to the basement until it had blown over. We wondered at the time how much of the house might be missing when we came out. Even in the real storms of life Jesus is with us. Whether on the roads, the water, or in a shelter. Many times on the news I have heard people give thanks to the Lord that they are alive and unharmed even though they have lost everything. Storms help us to get our priorities right in life. They also help us give the Lord his rightful place in our lives. When was the last time you were in a storm where you thanked the Lord for the safe shelter you had to stay in?
Thanks for another HOMESPUN HOMILY Christine.
Remember the old gospel hymn we sang at the top of our lungs as girls in church ?  The Lord's Our Rock in Him we Hide, a Shelter in the Time of Storm!  Isn't it great that in the storms of life we have our safe shelter, the Lord Jesus Christ, to hide in until it is over?  Come on in out of the storm.........there's lots of room in the Shelter of the Lord!

I find I need to discern between a real storm or one that is being "generated" by others trying to sweep me in. In both cases the answer is to put my eyes on Jesus and keep my focus on Him.

It is wonderful to have such a safe haven out of life's storms where I am warm and comforted. Thank You Lord for Your shelter and Your peace in the midst of life's storms.
